3.18a hanging
Hi -
I know I'm using an alpha version here, but I need the gzip encoding fix which isn't yet apparently in 3.0 release.
I reverted to 3.0 to get around the 3.17a leftover java.exe process issue, but realized that the gzip encoded site was broken again, concluding that the fix isn't yet in the release.
3.18a is unusable, however, as the java.exe process just takes 100% CPU and hangs on my XPSP2 box, both in Workbench and in Service mode.

Let's tackle the hanging issue, then let's deal with the gzip issue.
I've just tested both workbench and server on a WinXP SP2 machine using version 3.0.20a, and didn't notice any trouble. I suppose it's possible your instance has become corrupted. Assuming you've backed up your data (http//www.screen-scraper.com/support/faq/faq.php#BackingUp), what happens if you completely un-install (including deleting your screen-scraper folder), re-install, then upgrade to the latest alpha. Do you still see the hanging issue?

I just lost a really long post because I said 4b\/5ign, if you can figure out what that means. I get the need for spam defeators, but I lost the text I had entered. That makes me sad.
The shorter version of what I had said:
Didn't get 100% CPU, but got the service to hang
In 18a when a scrape hangs due to complexity, large data, etc, the whole service hangs and has to be killed.
In 3.0 the same scenario does not hang the rest of the service and everything else still works.
