Bug: Keyboard stops responding
This is an odd one. I haven't used screenscraper much since version 5 came out but I'll be needing it quite a bit in future so I've only just dusted it off and started using again.
I've got the latest version 5.5.37a running on 64 bit Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
It seems that all the various text boxes be they label fields, script editor window etc all seem to randomly stop accepting keyboard input. Sometime if I switch to another window in screenscraper and back again it will come good but sometimes the only solution is to restart the workbench. Selecting text with mouse works fine I just can't type or delete anything with the keyboard. The keyboard itself is fine and will work in other apps at the same time this is happening. I've also not had any problems with other swing apps. It is quite frequent and very annoying. I'm restarting the workbench every few minutes to work around it.
Something else that's odd is that it can sometimes be field specific. i.e. if I can't type in one text field I might still be able to type in another one.
I don't know if screen scraper still uses an embedded JVM or not but in case it's relevant my default system JVM is Sun 32 bit JDK 1.6
$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_25"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_25-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 20.0-b11, mixed mode)
Any help or fixes you can suggest will save me pulling out any more clumps of hair.
Unfortunately I can't tell you if it's specific to this version or to Ubuntu as I only switched to Ubuntu (from winXP) about 6 months ago and haven't used screenscraper for maybe 12 months.
Why would it be a video
edit: deleted coz post is in the wrong place
I grabbed an ubuntu machine
I grabbed an ubuntu machine here, and fired up the screen-scraper GUI, but was unable to see this happen. It is an older version of ubuntu, so that may be related, but I would suspect that it would be more related to a video driver on your end.
Why would it be a video
Why would it be a video driver? Video isn't affected at all. I can select the text boxes, see the cursor. I can even select, cut and paste text into the box. I just can't type.
I will try changing the JVM to openJDK-1.6 64 bit and see if that has any effect.
You're right. I misunderstood
You're right. I misunderstood the issue, and with those details it seems unlikely to be video. The JVM is good to check, though I am using the bundled version, and still fine.
Anything in there error log?
