Proxy server problems

I can't get passed Tutorial One. I have downloaded the latest version of ss_basic, and am running IE6. I have amended the settings of IE6 as described in Tutorial 1, but still nothing registers in "HTTP Transactions" pane of ss while I'm browsing. So I am guessing that nothing is being passed to ss.

Any ideas what else I can try? I'd really like to get this trial version working - because it does sound ideal for what I want.

Thanks.

Proxy server problems

I think that after a couple of days, IE began to work as it should. I've already worked around it, so haven't tested, but noticed in doing some other work that the behavior seemed to be correct.

Update: I switched user to the admin account and found Sygate messages. IE still doesn't work, but Firefox does now.

Proxy server problems

I have the same problem with IE and XP Home. Sysgate is also running.
I tried Firefox, but it stalls on the Request and won't receive and pages.

Excellent! There are a number of ways to set IE's proxy settings (e.g., through a configuration file or script), so it's often difficult to know just what settings it's using. That's great the Firefox did the trick. Best of luck, and don't hesitate to post again if we can be of further assistance.

Proxy server problems

Hi Todd,

I installed Firefox and proxy server is all now working as it should.

Still not sure why IE had a problem, but using Firefox is fine.

Many thanks for your help with this and best regards,

Simon.

Proxy server problems

Hi Simon,

Just one other thought--would you mind trying the Firefox browser to see what difference that makes?

Best,

Todd

Proxy server problems

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the posting. If you can still browse pages that means that your web browser isn't communicating at all with screen-scraper. Are you certain that you set up your web browser to use screen-scraper as a proxy server? Instructions on doing that are found here http//www.screen-scraper.com/support/docs/proxy_server_internet_explorer.php.

Would you mind double-checking that, and, if you're certain you've configured your browser correctly, but are still having problems, post another message back?

Thanks,

Proxy server problems

Hi there,

I'm also having the same problem as morag and the other poster. I'm running XP Home and the basic version of SS and have followed setup instructions in the tutorial.

My ISP doesn't require I connect through a proxy server and there are no existing proxy settings.

I can still browse pages with IE6.

I have started proxy server in SS.

I haven't yet installed another browser to try it.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Simon Woods.

Proxy server problems

Hi,

Thanks for the posting. Here are a few suggestions/possibilities

- Does your ISP require that you connect through a proxy server? That is, are there proxy settings already existing when you go to modify your settings as we describe in our tutorial?
- When you configure your browser to use screen-scraper as a proxy, can you browse web pages at all?
- Have you clicked the "Start Proxy Server" button under the "General" tab of the proxy session you created?
- What happens if you try a different web browser (e.g., Firefox)?

Please let us know if any of those suggestions help. If not we'd be happy to help continue to troubleshoot.

Kind regards,

Todd Wilson
