Hello Support:

My local MLS recently changed their format for login. The j_transaction POST type value changes everytime I login, but I can't figure how the value is generated. The URL to the login into the MLS is:

http://idp.socal.safemls.net/idp/Authn/UserPassword

The parameters is as follows:

j_username I will email you the username                 1 POST
j_password I will email you the password                 2 POST
j_pin                                                    3 POST
j_transactionid cdac469f-22b9-4055-9cdc-b3741fdc876b-f7310016 4 POST
j_submitHidden Submit Query                              5 POST
j_username2                                              6 POST
j_pin2                                                   7 POST
j_password2                                              8 POST

I tried using Charles Proxy but was not able to figure it out. Since I've had a similar problem before and I would like to increase my knowledge, is it possible to create a tutorial for problem solving such puzzles?

A tutorial won't really work

A tutorial won't really work because there is no standard way of doing this. Every developer can come up with their own thing. Most of the time, if you don't see the key on the login page, it's in JavaScript somewhere, but we'd just have to hammer at it until it was found, and there's no good way to guess with the data that I have.

Attached is a working scraping session (sans credentials). The key to making this work was to experiment by including items from my proxy transaction (naming the corresponding scrapeable files by their proxy sequence number) and testing step-by-step. For each scrapeable file, I would make use of the "Compare with proxy transaction" button under the Last Request tab.

In the past it has not been necessary to manually set such HTTP Headers as "Keep-Alive" or "Proxy-Connection" but just today I've encountered two sites that required that they be set manually. It must be a sign of things to come.

Redirecting to the Start Page

Hi Scott,

It appears that SS is redirected to the start page at the end of the 5th sequence. Is it possible that my Internet Options in the Control Panel is set-up differently from yours and that could be causing the problem?
